Creative projects on a drug recovery wing.
We were invited into HMP Hewell to develop a creative project exploring recovery from substance misuse. We delivered two five session projects which used theatre and drama methodologies to enable the participants to explore motivation to change, decision making, mask as a coping strategy, problem solving, trigger situations and goal setting.
The groups also created a character around which they could create a fictional story of recovery. This character and his journey formed the basis of a short performance, created by the participants, and presented to an invited audience of friends, prison officers and other members of staff on the final session.
Participants and staff commented on the value of the course in enabling them to develop new skills and reflect on their own journey.
