Growing with Substance

working with parental substance misuse

All work

One of our Performance with Keynote Speaker events designed for social work practitioners and students, Growing with Substance is a day-long training event and collaboration between Geese and Dr Ciaran Murphy.

Practitioner, Dave, in character

A combination of keynote presentations and vivid theatre performances designed to bring theory to life, Growing with Substance will explore:

– how to prevent substance-related care episodes and understanding the ‘rollercoaster effect’ of repeated short-term treatment followed by lapse

– children’s views and experiences of parental substance misuse

– the impact of ‘industry violence’

– how to improve partnership working between children’s services and substance misuse professionals

Dr Ciaran Murphy is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Edge Hill University’s Department of Social Work and Wellbeing. He is a qualified and registered social worker having practised for 10 years in the areas of child protection, substance misuse and education welfare.

  • The speaker was absolutely amazing and the experience and knowledge that was shared will definitely influence my social work practice. The performances were amazing and very inspiring.

  • The in-depth knowledge of substance misuse was very informative. It was performed very well, entertaining as well as informative and gave a real understanding of real life situations.

  • I adore the performances and I can’t wait to hopefully see the team again.
