At Aylesbury, we worked with 6 young men with emerging personality disorders.
The Pathways team had identified rhyming, rapping and lyricism as a potential way to engage with this group. We created a character to work from and with each development of the character and accompanying exercises, we translated the learning points into lyrics and created three tracks exploring the themes of personal choice and goal setting. This was mixed in with other theatre and lyrics exercises and culminated in a presentation to the rest of the Pathways staff, where the group described the process and its values and what they would take away from the project.
The group members remarked that it raised their confidence levels, allowed them to view their lives and their own choices in a different light and establish plans for the future.
