Look Beyond - One-day course
This intensive one-day workshop will provide participants with an insight into the work of Geese Theatre Company, focusing particularly on their use of theatre and drama in Criminal Justice settings.
Participants will have an opportunity to experience Geese's methodology and explore some of the theories which underpin the company's practice. In more detail the course will explore:
• the history and context of Geese's work
• the theories which support the methodology
• exercises and theatre structures to explore particular themes / issues
• the use of character and small-scale performance in groupwork settings
• Geese's trademark use of mask
In addition there will be plenty of opportunities for individuals to ask specific questions about their particular area of interest.
The workshop will be facilitated by Geese's Artistic Director, Andy Watson. After training at the Lecoq School of Mime and Physical Theatre in Paris, Andy became a practitioner with Geese in 1997 and has been the company's Artistic Director for the last 12 years. Andy is one of the UK's most experienced practitioners of theatre in Criminal Justice settings and specialises in developing and delivering a range of theatre based interventions in prisons, secure hospitals and with 'at-risk' groups in the community. A long-standing member of the National Alliance for the Arts in Criminal Justice steering group and an Honorary Lecturer in Forensic Psychology at The University of Birmingham, Andy regularly provides inputs onto a range of Applied Theatre under-graduate and post-graduate courses and presents at national and international conferences.
