During August, Geese practitioners Becky and Daniel, delivered a week-long creative project at a residential children’s home organisation, Woodlands. Working with professional filmmaker, Joe Partridge, they helped the young people devise, direct and perform in a short film that was shared with staff and peers on the last day.
At the beginning of the week staff stated that the young people rarely opened up, but as the week progressed, practitioners and staff noticed them openly discussing emotions through the character they had developed, and their confidence began to grow.
Becky recognised that the young people responded incredibly well to being creative and took every opportunity to play, right up until the moment of filming.
“The group took complete ownership of the project, both behind and in front of the camera. The final screening was a real celebration, it was great to see how proud the staff were of the group and most importantly how much those that had taken part enjoyed watching each other and what they had created together.”
Woodlands staff even rolled out the red carpet for the final sharing event and created VIP tickets and VIP reserved seating for those involved in the creative project. The sharing was well attended, with over 30 staff members celebrating the final film with the young people who took part.
