Last week we were hatching plans with our colleagues from aufBruch, a prison theatre company based in Berlin, as we prepare to collaborate on two projects this Autumn:
– Hosting a week-long project in a UK prison, exploring aufBruch’s powerful text-based methodology
– Bringing our own mask-based approach to Berlin, where it will be woven into one of their prison performances.

This conversation sparked reflection on the international partnerships we’ve been fortunate to be part of over the years – from staff training in Oslo, Upsalla, and Sydney; working with students in Brisbane; presenting at conferences in Cape Town and Belem; and delivering projects with residents in a prison in Baku.
Each experience has offered brilliant opportunities to exchange practice and explore what feels universal in this work – themes like hope, connection, agency and community consistently emerge, no matter the location.
While we are immensely proud of the work we do in our local area and in the UK context, it is affirming to see how these approaches resonate across geographical borders. We’re grateful for the chance to keep learning, sharing, and growing through these collaborations.
