Used

A one-day experiential theatre-based groupwork input for men or women offenders involved in substance misuse programmes in prison or in the community. Used incorporates theatrical performance, experiential exercises, skills practice role-play and Geese's trademark metaphor of the mask and invites participants to explore issues connected with their substance misuse.

In more detail, Used focuses on:

  • motivation to change
  • choice and decision making
  • recognising trigger situations, thoughts and feelings
  • mask as a coping strategy for dealing with difficult situations
  • solution focussed problem solving, specifically around: relationships; peer influence; old aquaintances; staying positive.
  • relapse prevention.

Used can be delivered as a one-off project for offenders with an acknowledged problem with substance misuse or can be delivered in conjunction with other on-going substance misuse programmes. Currently it is being delivered with groups of offenders who are also involved in P-ASRO and the Short Duration Programme.

"Over the past two years the workshop provided by the Geese Theatre Company has become an integral addition to our drug treatment programme.  It is consistently well received and proves to be a highly thought-provoking experience for all group members. The session also provides staff with greater scope to enable participants to explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviour around substance misuse and offending. Would highly recommend!"
