Inside / Outside
an interactive performance event for Lifers and their families preparing for release.
Inside / Outside is a show designed specifically for offenders coming towards the end of a life sentence and, if appropriate, their families. It is a highly interactive and engaging performance following two life sentence prisoners as they contemplate release from custody and examines the potential impact of that release on family members and friends. The performance is designed to provoke thought, discussion and debate amongst the audience, and focuses more specifically on:
- Pre-release preparation – what “planning ahead” really means
- Home visits – what is said and what goes unsaid
- Living in a probation hostel – how to make it work
- The first few weeks – re-integrating with family
- Making connections in the community
- Living under licence
- Lifer and family unspoken fears
As part of the overall programme, Geese offers an additional workshop to complement the performance. The workshop will focus in more detail on specific issues raised by the performance.
Inside / Outside is also suitable for professionals who work with Lifers.
“Some of the lads were saying before you did the show that you wouldn’t have a clue what was going through our heads with regards to our release and things that we might be thinking about. You proved us completely wrong; every issue presented was absolutely right. Thanks so much.”
“One of the things you’ve shown us is that we all have similar thoughts, anxieties and fears about being released. In here you believe that you are the only one that has those concerns and worries. What you’ve done today is show us that we are not on our own.”
