In-house training events
Geese can design staff training to meet the needs of your organisation, with each event tailored to the particular groups your staff are working with. Training can be delivered for up to sixteen participants in either a one, two or three-day format, at a location convenient for your staff. A one-day training event serves as an excellent introduction to the use of theatre and drama in groupwork with offenders and young people at risk, but will provide a limited opportunity for participants to practise the taught skills. Two and particularly three-day training events will have core time allocated for participants to practise these new skills in a safe environment whilst receiving feedback and pointers from Geese staff.
The Content:
The training event will invite participants to experience a variety of drama-based methods for use in groupwork. The focus will be on exploring some of the basic principles behind the company’s use of drama with offenders and other at risk and marginalised groups, whilst offering workers a range of effective techniques in order to enable them to:
-
Explore with their group members their experience of the world.
-
Assist their group in identifying patterns of behaviour and exploring new strategies for change.
-
Identify and assist in the group’s development of interpersonal skills.
-
Create an environment where safe and relevant experiential learning can take place.
Throughout the training event these methods will be set within the context of the particular groups your staff are working with, for example, young offenders, youth at risk, domestic violence perpetrators, sex offenders etc.
Learning Outcomes:
Depending on the requirements of your organisation, and the duration of the training, participants can learn, or learn and practise some or all of the following:
-
How to lead active exercises which can help to build group cohesion and raise discussion around issues relevant to the group.
-
How to facilitate the creation of frozen images and simple role plays which can be used to examine thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
-
How to apply exercises and scene work to skills training in areas identified by your programmes, such as victim awareness, conflict resolution and problem solving.
-
Rapport building including: basic questioning techniques, encouraging participation and working with resistance.
-
Group dynamics, ethical practice and appropriate safety mechanisms for drama-based work.
-
Working with resistance.
The emphasis of the training can be determined by your organisation.
If your team has a specific training need then please feel free to email us in order to discuss you requirements.
