Probation Groupwork

Since 1989 Geese has maintained long term partnerships with the Probation Service. Collaborating closely with professional colleagues, we provide a regular input of active based work to complement some of the community sentence programmes which they deliver. In this context our work can be viewed as a dynamic educational tool which assists in the exploration of complex cycles of behaviour, interventions, relapse prevention and victim empathy.

The range of programmes to which we have contributed include those addressing offending behaviour, anger management, violent offending, female offenders, employment related issues, sex offending and domestic violence. Our attention is now focussed on the latter two areas, as detailed below:

Sex Offender Groups - Geese is the only approved provider (by the Home Office National Probation Directorate) of active methods inputs into the community based sex offender groupwork programmes. Amongst other things, Geese delivers inputs which require the devising of complex role-plays, allowing group members to rehearse and practice new skills.

Domestic Violence Groups - Geese provides a number of inputs into community based domestic violence groupwork programmes, using theatre and drama techniques to explore motivation to change, cycles of abuse, denial and minimisation, amongst other themes.

We currently have partnerships with six probation areas. If you are interested in discussing how the work of Geese Theatre Company could be integrated into probation groupwork in your area then please email us.
